Title: Poincaré symmetry in discrete algorithms

Abstract: The discrete settings of physical simulations generally forfeit spacetime’s Poincaré symmetries and their corresponding energy-momentum conservation laws. In this seminar, I will discuss work on a new formalism for lattice gauge theory that attempts to address this important challenge of computational physics. In this approach, a discrete analogue of the Yang-Mills equation is formed from a Poincaré-valued Cartan connection on the lattice. The potential application of such an algorithm to the simulation of gravitational systems will be discussed.
