Replacing point vortices in self-similar expanding configurations with vortex patches
Speaker: Sam Zbarsky
Abstract: There are known point vortex systems for Euler in the plane that expand self-similarly. I'll talk about replacing the point vortices with vortex patches, and showing that the resulting evolution of the centers of mass is close to the evolution of point vortices, and that the size of the vortex patches grows slower than the distance between them.
