Overview
We live in an Information Age. We have seen a dramatic increase in
computational power and data gathering mechanisms, as well as an
ever-increasing demand for finer data analysis in applications that
rely on scientific and geometric modeling. Each day,
millions of large data sets are generated in medical imaging,
surveillance, and scientific acquisition. The usefulness of
these data sets rests on our ability to process them efficiently,
whether it be for storage, transmission, visual display, fast on-line
graphical query, correlation, or registration against data from other
modalities.
It is our contention that the challenges articulated above will not be met by incremental advances in confined disciplines. Rather, we believe that the advances we seek will only be met by revisiting fundamental questions about data representation and computational algorithms. Moreover, we believe that such a fresh analysis needs to come not within one scientific discipline but in a multidisciplinary effort. For this reason we have put together a working group with invited speakers, collaborators, postdocs, and graduate students from a variety of disciplines. Limited funding will be available for participants. Preference will be given to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and assistant professors. To apply, please send a CV and a short letter (1 - 2 paragraphs) explaining your interest and qualifications to Joel Tropp on or before October 23. Funding decisions will be taken by October 26. Accommodation
We have reserved a block of double occupancy rooms at the Princeton Holiday Inn . To reserve a room, call Young Song at 609-806-0014 and give the password, "PU Math". Please coordinate roommate issues with fellow students and post-docs.
Local InformationFor information on transportation from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to the Holiday Inn: http:// www.princeton.edu/main/visiting/travel/airports/ As the Airporter does not go to the hotel, and taxis are very expensive, we recommend that participants either share car service to and from the hotel, or rent a car at the airport. Information about car service is at the bottom of the webpage given above. We encourage participants to coordinate transportation among themselves. Transportation from Holiday Inn to Princeton University : A shuttle will be available on Friday morning at 8:30 AM, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:15 AM, to bring participants from the hotel to Princeton University. The shuttle will also be available to bring participants back from Fine Hall to the hotel on Friday at 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM, as well as Saturday at 5:30 PM and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM. If you would like to return to the hotel at any other time, here are some taxi services and numbers: Princeton Taxi Cab (609) 924-7300 A Local Taxi Cab (609) 275-1616
